SCARSDALE, N.Y. A licensed solicitor was invited into a Scarsdale resident's home for a hot meal Thursday, then stole money from a wallet, according to a Scarsdale Police report.
Police were called to a Brite Avenue home at 9 p.m. Thursday when a couple, who had invited a youth soliciting for the New York Youth Club in for a hot meal, discovered the wife's wallet was missing from her pocket book, according to the report. The husband said he had made a $10 donation and fed the youth, who then excused himself to use the bathroom. He then noticed the purse was open and the wallet was missing. When the youth returned from the bathroom, the man confronted him and the youth denied wrongdoing and left.
Police found the wallet in an umbrella stand in the hall bathrooom and discovered $40 was missing, the report said. Police found the youth and brought the Brite Avenue man to the scene, where he identified the young man. A supervisor from the New York Youth Club took custody of the youth and returned to the money to the couple, who declined to prosecute.
