SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW) has renewed its lease at Wayside Cottage in Scarsdale, guaranteeing the women’s organization will operate out of its historic location until 2028.

On Tuesday, Julie King, the president of the JLCW, announced that her organization signed a new lease that will run through the next 15 years.

The JLCW – which is comprised of women from Eastchester, Greenburgh, Scarsdale and White Plains - uses Wayside Cottage in a variety of ways throughout the year, and it is considered the organization’s headquarters. It has been the home of the JLCW since 1953.

The JLCW regularly provides tours of the historic cottage to students, teaching them the ways of colonial living while dressed in the garb from the era. Membership meetings are conducted at Wayside Cottage and there is annual coffee breakfasts hosted for potential new recruits.

“The JLCW is honored to continue the tradition of presiding over Wayside Cottage,” King said. “Its rich history in the local community spans generations. We are committed to the restoration of this special building and look forward to sharing its importance with the community for many years to come.”

Wayside Cottage has been a fixture in Scarsdale since the 1700s. It was deeded to the village in 1919 to create a historical park. Mayor Robert Steves said that the cottage is an important part of Scarsdale.

“Wayside Cottage is an important historical site in the village,” he said. “Our long-term agreement with the Junior League has provided for its preservation while allowing it to function as a community resource and headquarters for the league.”
