SCARSDALE, N.Y.- When Julianne Steiner was a child she used to mix potions together in her moms bathroom using creams and sleepovers were filled with doing her girlfriends hair and makeup. Now Steiner, an esthetician, uses her expertise to illuminate peoples features with makeup, apply professionally made potions during customized facials and more at her own quaint spa oasis above the five corners shops in Scarsdale.
I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be in the beauty industry. It was the industry I got excited about, said Steiner, who has worked and studied in the field for over 10 years. I am blessed that I love what I do.
Steiner - after working at Lancome, going to Fashion Institute of Technology, working for Victoria Secret, getting her esthetician license and working at another spa - opened up her own skin care boutique in 2001.
Her vision - originally to only do facials and waxing- expanded as her enthusiasm to learn more about the industry and to help her customers in any way she could kept growing. Steiner carries an organic skin care line, does laser hair and wax hair removal, performs micro dermabrasion and does more than just apply makeup. Steiner will go through customers makeup bags helping decide what to keep and what to toss, go shopping with a client for products and teach a client how to apply their own makeup.
The purging of cosmetics has been great. We organize it and go through what you need from day to night, said Steiner. When we are done with makeup shopping we set up a makeup session, which is key.
Steiners newest skill and addition to her spa menu is reflexology- --the act of applying pressure to certain areas of the body to promote healing and relaxation.
My clients have been loving it, said Steiner.
Steiner takes her job seriously, saying, if youre not happy, I am not happy. She continues to perfect her practice as she has been doing since she was a little girl practicing on her friends and making her own creams in her moms bathroom.
