SCARSDALE, N.Y. - Following a successful pilot study of LED lighting on select village streets, the Scarsdale Board of Trustees is expanding the project with he expectation of complete installation by the end of the year.

Last year, the Board established an Ad-Hoc Committee on LED Streetlights, which recommended that the trustees move forward with the pilot program that involved installing LED lighting on high volume traffic streets and in locations with “town and county post-top fixtures.”

Initially, lights were outfitted on Post Road, Mamaroneck Road, Heathcote Road and Weaver Street. In the next phase of the program, contractors will concentrate on parts of the Crane Berkeley and Secor Farms areas, as well as a few other streets throughout the village, according to officials.

By installing the LED streetlights, the committee hopes to improve visibility on streets at night, reduce costs to the village and taxpayers for electricity-related costs, limit the amount of local maintenance required and conserve energy.

The committee is again seeking input from the community regarding the LED lighting and the pilot program. When they opened up the public discussion following the first phase, they received just 11 emails.

“Resident feedback is important to the committee in helping determine how the project moves forward, and we hope to hear from everyone in the village,” they said in a joint statement.

Those interested in commenting or questioning the LED streetlight program in the village can do so by emailing or dropping off written correspondence at Village Hall in the LED comment box located on the first floor counter.

"The Scarsdale LED Pilot Project is still underway for the next month, and resident feedback about the lights remains important," Deputy Village Manager Robert Cole said. "Identifying signage has been affixed to each of the LED poles and residents are encouraged to provide feedback and ask questions about the lights."
