Hartsdale's Solomon Schechter School Offers Program On Technology

HARTSDALE, N.Y. -- "The Promise and Peril of the Technological Society" will be presented by the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester, in partnership with Mechon Hadar, on Sunday, Jan. 10, at the Upper School Campus in Hartsdale.

This Morning of Learning event is open to the community.

It is an opportunity for adults to participate in a variety of thought-provoking, thematic learning sessions with rabbis and educators from both Schechter Westchester and Mechon Hadar.

Speakers from Solomon Schechter will include:

• Michael Kay, head of school.
• Rabbi Harry Pell, associate head of school for Jewish life and learning.
• Rabbi Abby Sosland, spiritual adviser.
•  Daniel Aviv, high school science teacher.
• Dorothy Weiss, high school Tanakh department chair and teacher.

Speakers from Mechon Hadar will include:

• Rabbi Shai Held, co-founder, dean, and chair in Jewish thought.
• Rabbi Elie Kaunfer, co-founder, executive director.
• Dena Weiss, Rosh Beit Midrash at Yeshivat Hadar. 

The fee to attend is $36; $54 per couple; $180 sponsorship.

The event will take place at 555 W. Hartsdale Ave., Hartsdale.

There will be breakfast and two learning sessions.

The following is the schedule:

• 8:45-9:10 a.m., breakfast and registration.
• 9:10-9:45 a.m., keynote address: "Does the Torah Believe in Progress? Technology and Morality."
• 10-11 a.m., Session 1 (Choice of four topics).
• 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Session 2 (Choice of four topics).
• 12:30-1 p.m., closing remarks.
