MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Murphy Brothers Sean and Chris hosted a "Topping Out" ceremony to celebrate the last structural beam being installed on Mamaroneck Self-Storage and the halfway point in the construction of the 40,000-square-foot building, designed by area architect Kim Martelli.
The last beam was signed by all the construction workers and the people involved in the building, then raised and set in place. An American flag and an evergreen tree were placed on top of the structure as part of the tradition, while a lone trumpeter played “God Bless America.”
“It's amazing to think we were just here in September for the groundbreaking," said John Ravitz, chief operating officer of the Business Council of Westchester. "The Business Council is proud to be affiliated with the Murphy Brothers. This facility is going to be a game-changer in this part of the county."
Sean Murphy noted that Murphy Brothers is working with the county IDA on this project, as well as with NYSERDA and Steven Winter Associates to incorporate energy-efficient upgrades, making this a green construction project and the first commercial project in the tri-state area to feature solar roof shingles
"On behalf of County Executive Rob Astorino, the county is thrilled to have partnered with Murphy Brothers on this project, and we thank you for generating jobs in Westchester and helping to make our county the special place it is to live and work," said Bill Mooney, director of economic development, who represents the Astorino's office.
Also on hand were many local business leaders and village notables, showing their support for the project and wishing the Murphy Brothers well, including Ernie Odierna, Deputy Supervisor, Town of Mamaroneck, Lou Santoro and David Finch, Trustees from the Village of Mamaroneck.
