The state Department of Labor launched a probe of the buffet-style eatery at 2345 South Road after multiple employees there complained that they were not getting paid and that, when they did receive checks, there was something wrong with them, The Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

The first such franchise in Dutchess County, Golden Corral had been set to open in the fall, but because of problems with its gas line, and for other reasons, had to push back its opening until the end of January. It also had to close for a short period in February to work out “kinks,” The Poughkeepsie Journal said.

In February, emergency responders had to be dispatched to the restaurant after a man collapsed in its restroom of an apparent drug overdose. Fire Chief Tory G. Galante, of the Arlington Fire District, then could not confirm if the incident involved heroin but did say that that was how it was called in the emergency crews.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reported that franchise owner Sherrance Henderson blamed “growing pains” and the termination of its license agreement for the restaurant’s woes.
