Scam Alert: Callers Posing As Police Sergeant, Demanding Cash In Region Authorities in the Hudson Valley are warning residents to be wary of phone scammers posing as police to demand cash from victims.  The scheme was detailed in an announcement by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office on Friday, Aug. 23, in which authorities said they had received reports of fraudulent calls to residents in the county.  According to the Sheriff's Office, the caller has been posing as a sergeant from the office and asking for cash for missed jury duty fines.  In their announcement, the office said they would never make such calls or request payments for jury d…

Hudson Valley Man Charged With Rape Of Teenager, Police Say A 41-year-old man has been charged with rape and sexual abuse of a teen in the region. Ulster County resident Stephen E. Alvarez Jr., of Milton, was charged Tuesday, July 30, by the town of Hyde Park Police for the incident, which was reported on Friday, April 26. Threat Of Bombs At Hudson Valley Mall Leads To Evacuation, Search, Police Say A busy Sunday at a mall in the region quickly turned to fear when officials began evacuating the building due to a bomb threat. The incident took place in Dutchess County at the Poughkeepsie Galleria on Sunday, Oct. 29 just before 2 p.m. Capt. Michael O'Dowd of the town of Poughkeepsie Police said 911 received a call reporting that bombs had been placed at the Galleria.  The call was immediately transferred to town police who responded and met with Galleria management and the decision was made to evacuate the building as a precaution, O'Dowd said.
