The incident happened in Schenectady at around 8:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, near Bradt Street and Broadway, according to the Schenectady City School District.

District officials said a man driving a gray FJ Cruiser approached the student two different times. After speaking with the student once and driving away, he then returned and offered to give the student a ride.

“The incident was reported to police immediately and the district’s Community Engagement Officers were assigned to investigate,” the district said in a statement to parents.

Police were able to confirm the vehicle and license plate on surveillance footage, but had not located the driver as of Monday, Feb. 13.

He is described as a bald man in his 40s with a large build and medium complexion.

The district did not immediately say which school the student attends, but the incident occurred just blocks away from Fulton Elementary School.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Schenectady Police Youth Aid Bureau at 518-382-5256 or call 911.

“An important reminder to all students, parents, and community members, when you see something, say something,” the district said. “Always monitor suspicious behavior and be aware of your surroundings.”
