Quick Work Of Firefighters Saves Westchester Home Quick action by firefighters from the Vista and South Salem fire departments saved a family's home following a basement fire. The fire started around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at 87 East St., in South Salem, according to Vista Fire Chief Jeff Peck.  Once on scene, firefighters found smoke showing from inside the home and quickly determined the fire was coming from the basement. After running hoses, firefighters were able to knock down the fire within minutes, Peck said.
