Antonio Trusty, 36, of New York City, was arrested on Saturday, April 6, after he allegedly fled from a traffic stop and drove through residential properties and even the grounds of the American Yacht Club before crashing into a tree in Rye, the City of Rye Police Department announced on Monday, April 7.

The incident began around 1:05 p.m. on Saturday when the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center alerted local departments that a stolen 2011 Toyota Highlander with Massachusetts license plates had been spotted traveling on the Cross County Parkway, police said.

The department added that Westchester County Police officers soon located the vehicle and attempted to pull it over. When Trusty allegedly refused to stop, a pursuit ensued, extending onto the Hutchinson River Parkway, then northbound on I-95, and eventually to Playland Parkway, where Rye Police joined the chase.

Trusty then veered off the road, driving on private property and hitting a Westchester County police car and a civilian vehicle driven by a Connecticut resident on Stuyvesant Avenue. All involved declined medical attention, police said.

The pursuit came to an end at the intersection of Stuyvesant Avenue and Barron Place, where Trusty allegedly crashed into a tree. After a brief attempt to flee on foot, he was taken into custody.

Trusty was processed by Westchester County Police and charged with:

  • Third-degree criminal possession of stolen property;
  • Third-degree criminal mischief;
  • Third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle;
  • Reckless driving;
  • Second-degree obstructing governmental administration.

The City of Rye Police Department also issued four summonses for leaving the scene of an accident without reporting.

Trusty was arraigned and is expected to appear in court again at a later date.
