Rye Students Set for Spring Theater Season

RYE, N.Y. - Students from all over Rye are gearing up to take the stage for the Spring Theater season. Rye High School's own Parson Street Players anxiously wait for the first weekend in March as it prepares to perform the Tony Award Musical "Pippin" inside the High School's auditorium.

Pippin, which is set in a magical time of kings and court jesters, has a story and message that resonates with modern day society, said play director Michael Limone. According to Limone, the protagonist spends the play searching for his own niche in an "extraordinary" world.

Likewise the girls from School of the Holy Child in Rye are eager to hit the stage and perform the classic Broadway hit "Annie." Rachel Fitzmaurice and Pippa Leigh, Holy Child freshmen, will make their debut in the lead role of Annie.

"Being a part of this production has given me an opportunity to let my talent shine, have a great performing arts experience and build friendships," Leigh said. "The faculty, staff and volunteers have created a fantastic show as well as a positive environment where every member of the cast can feel great about themselves."

Holy Child's Director of Arts Kim Calhoun spoke about what it's like to be a part of school performance.

"Being a part of the show teaches students team work and responsibility," Calhoun said. "It also provided them with an opportunity to attempt something that they may not have had the chance to try before."

Holy Child's "Annie" is free and will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday the at Holy Child's campus at 2225 Westchester Ave. Rye High School's Parsons Street Players take the stage the following weekend starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 2 and ending with two shows on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 and the price is cut in half for students and free for senior citizens.
