Westchester County Police arrested a 40-year-old man on Sunday night after he drove the wrong way on the Bronx River Parkway in Eastchester and slammed head-on into another car.
The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. when Joseph Ayala of Yonkers, who was alone in his car, drove his 2015 Cadillac Escalade southbound in the northbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police.
At Leewood Drive, Ayala collided head-on with a 2010 Hyundai driven by Robert Holt, 23, of Carmel, and five passengers.
Holt and his passengers all declined medical attention at the scene, O'Leary said.
Ayala is facing charges of reckless endangerment, aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol level above .18 percent, and reckless driving, he added.
He is currently being treated at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla due to injuries suffered in the collision.
Ayala is scheduled to arraigned this afternoon at the Westchester Medical Center.
