A Rye man involved in a crash on I-95 was driving with a BAC at more than twice the legal limit, according to police.

New York State Police say they responded to a one-car accident on I-95 in the city of Rye on Saturday, April 6 around 1:30 a.m.

Police say the driver, identified as 24-year-old Guglielmo Girotto, drove off the roadway at the exit 19 ramp and hit a concrete barrier, causing the vehicle’s airbags to deploy.

Girotto was uninjured but allegedly found to be intoxicated. He was arrested, transported and processed at SP New Rochelle, where police say his BAC was tested at .22.

Girotto was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor, and several vehicle and traffic violations.

Girotto was ticketed and released to a sober third party. He is scheduled to appear at the City of Rye Court on Friday, April 12.
