George P. Marshall, a lifelong Port Chester resident and longtime member of the village's fire department, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 8, at the age of 82, according to his obituary.
Marshall was a familiar and respected presence in Port Chester, where he served for an incredible 62 years as a volunteer firefighter with Washington Engine & Hose Company #4. He also served several years as Chaplain of the Port Chester Fire Department, offering spiritual guidance and support to his fellow firefighters.
“Please keep George and the Marshall family in your thoughts and prayers," the company wrote in a tribute on social media on Wednesday, April 9.
In addition to his decades of fire service, Marshall was a deeply spiritual man. A longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church, he served as both a Eucharistic Minister and lector, bringing communion weekly to the sick and homebound.
Born in Port Chester on January 20, 1943, to the late Roy and Mildred Parsons Marshall, George graduated from Port Chester High School and went on to become an electrician and proud member of IBEW Local Union No. 3.
He was a man of many interests: an avid gardener, a fisherman, and a meticulous builder of model boats and dollhouses. He also collected model cars, trucks, and fire trucks, often sharing his passion with his family, his obituary said.
George was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Theresa Brady Marshall, who passed away just two months earlier on February 1, 2025. He is survived by his children, Sean Marshall and Kathleen “Katie” Marshall; his grandchildren, Kyle Marshall and Brianna Lewis; and his in-laws Agnes (Gerald) Orr, Marie (Henry) Gower, and Brian (Anne) Brady, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
According to his obituary, Marshall's family will remember him as “the best dad and grandpa”—a calm, steady presence who always listened, advised, and loved deeply.
A wake will be held on Sunday, April 13, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. in Port Chester. The fire department will assemble in full dress uniform at 5 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday, April 14, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 260 Westchester Ave., Port Chester. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rye Brook.
