Update: Ocean County Man, 29, Struck, Killed Crossing Route 35 In Central Jersey

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing Route 35 in Monmouth County on Tuesday evening, authorities said.

John Hebeler, 29, of Tuckerton, was hit as he crossed the four-lane highway in Holmdel at about 7:15 p.m., the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Hebeler wasn’t in a crosswalk or near an intersection when he was hit on the southbound side near the Holmdel Motor Inn at 2174 Route 35 where the man had been staying, initial reports said.

The highway was shut down for several hours as police investigated.
