RYE, N.Y. -- Parkgoers and dog walkers have experienced a new attraction at the county-owned Playland Amusement Park in recent weeks: Major construction along the waterfront.
A multi-million dollar sewer replacement project approved by the county Board of Legislators is underway near Playland's entrance and Rye Town Park.
Trenches measuring 15- to 20-feet in depth have left piles of dirt where bulldozers are removing bedrock for new sewer lines. A spokesman for the county Board of Legislators said a separate sewage project began this month along Playland Parkway near Milton Road, Midland Avenue and the I-95 interchange.
