A 21-year-old Northern Westchester man is facing charges after allegedly firing shots from a rifle that entered a neighbor’s home, piercing a wall where a woman was bathing.

Yorktown resident Connor Scanlan was arrested on Sunday, July 12, and charged with multiple crimes after bullets from his .22 caliber rifle exited his home and entered the walls of a neighbor, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced.

Scarpino said that at approximately 3:45 p.m. on the day of his arrest, Scanlan’s neighbors on Friends Road heard loud bangs and repeated impacts to the side of their home.

Upon arrival, Yorktown Police officers said they found several bullet holes in the siding of both the Scanlan residence and an adjoining house. One bullet entered the neighbor’s bathroom and landed in the shower where a woman was bathing, Scarpino said.

No injuries were reported.

When asked, Scarpino said that Scanlan told police he had been target shooting with a .22 caliber rifle in the hallway of his house. Police seized Scanlan’s rifle along with several other airsoft rifles and related paraphernalia.

Scarpino noted that the .22 rifle is a legally owned firearm.

Scanlan was arrested and charged with:

  • Reckless endangerment;
  • Criminal mischief;
  • Prohibited use of a weapon.

Following his arraignment, Scanlan was released and scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
