Writer Pens Westchester-Themed Novel Set In Rye

PELHAM, N.Y. -- Truth is stranger than fiction. So goes the old adage and now, Pelham resident Rachel Cullen is putting all she's observed about life as a Westchester woman into a new novel, "The Way I've Heard It Should Be."

While fictional, the book takes place in Rye, and is a story about four women with gorgeous homes and oversized bank accounts.

An avid reader who always wanted to write but never had the time (she previously worked in marketing/consulting), Cullen said there have been lots of elements in her life that could be straight out of the books she's read. Now a stay-at-home mom, she decided to write her own suburban story, albeit one with extreme circumstances.

"The book is fiction," she stressed, though Cullen admitted folks will relate to some of the plots and twists. Readers will also find references to local street names along with mentions of Greenwich Hospital, Whole Foods, Rye Country Day and other area locales.

"The Way I've Heard It Should Be" is her first novel, though she is already at work on a second, which also incorporates parts of Westchester and New York City.

The book came out in kindle format the end of November; the paperback was released in late April. It is currently available on Amazon and through the Westchester Library system. Cullen hopes it will also be in some of the area's independent bookstores.
