Con Edison may be forced to stop accepting new customers due to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s energy policies, according to a New York Post report .

The report states that in a recent filing with the Public Service Commission, Con Ed has concerns about the company’s ability to meet “growing customer heating demands for natural gas with currently available resources.”

The problem has reached a breaking point, and Con Ed may be forced to stop accepting new customers temporarily.

According to the Post , “fracking has brought natural gas prices way down, and along with greenhouse-gas worries has prompted a massive switch from coal and oil for both power generation and home heating.” The editorial cites Cuomo blocking new gas pipelines, which could import natural gas from nearby regions into New York.

“Con Ed doesn’t want to get into a fight with the (governor); it couldn’t have been more circumspect in its warning,” the report reads. “But if Cuomo doesn’t relent, the utility will have no choice but to start screaming - lest the politicians try to blame it for leaving New Yorkers shivering in the cold.”
