Masked Intruder Strikes Senior Apartments, Leaves Ladder Behind In Rye (Photos)

Authorities in Westchester County are investigating a double apartment burglary at a senior housing complex and are asking the public for help identifying the masked intruder caught on camera.

The burglary was reported on Wednesday, April 9, at around 10:15 p.m. at the Vienna Senior Housing Complex at 250 Theodore Fremd Ave. in Rye, the City of Rye Police Department announced on Friday, April 11.

An investigation revealed that two apartments had been broken into between 8:00 and 10:00 p.m., with the suspect accessing both through unlocked rear windows. 

Police recovered a four-foot step ladder at the scene, believed to have been used in the break-ins.

A Nest security camera captured images of the suspect at approximately 9:10 p.m. inside one of the units. The individual was wearing gloves and a face mask to conceal their identity. Detectives later released the images to the public in hopes of identifying the person.

The Rye Police Department Detective Division processed both apartment scenes and confirmed that the matter remains under active investigation.
