Malfunctioning Traffic Signal Leads To 'Excessive' Delays At Four Corners In Hartsdale

On Wednesday, Dec. 18, and Thursday, Dec. 19, motorists have experienced “excessive” traffic delays along West Hartsdale Avenue during the morning commute, Greenburgh Police Chief Joseph Ryan said.

Ryan said that the cause of the delay has been identified as a switching malfunction at the Four Corners traffic signal.

Crews from the New York State Department of Transportation responded to Four Corners on Thursday morning, Ryan said, and the problem has now been resolved.

As a precaution, there will be extra police officers posted in the area to help with the evening rush hour commute, as a precaution.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said that town officials have met with the NYSDOT in Poughkeepsie to make the case for upgrading the signal at the busy intersection. He said that the town is also looking into upgrading the traffic lights on East Hartsdale Avenue to help reduce congestion.

"Newer lights would enable better traffic flow," he said. "We also want to balance traffic safely."
