Woman Charged With Bilking Disabled Wilton Resident WILTON, Conn. -- A Waterbury woman is facing charges of theft and credit card fraud against a disabled Wilton resident, police said. Sequan Monice Francis, 23, was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday by Connecticut State Police from Troop A in Southbury. She was stopped in a car that had been involved in a larceny in Danbury, police said. Troopers discovered that Francis had active warrants against her from the Wilton Police Department, police said. Car Goes Off I-95 In Westport, Lands In The Woods WESTPORT, Conn. — Three people escaped injury Tuesday night after the car they were traveling in went off the highway while traveling on Interstate 95 north and crashed in the woods, the Westport Fire Department said. The Westport Fire Department responded to the single-car crash between exits 18 and 19 and found the vehicle off the roadway and in the woods. The three occupants were not injured in the accident and refused medical transport to the hospital, the department said. Yonkers Police Investigate Caryl Avenue Shooting YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers police are investigating a Tuesday night shooting of a man on Caryl Avenue. The 24-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg at 7:36 p.m. Tuesday, Yonkers Police said. He was taken a local trauma center where he was treated and released, police said. Initial investigation has revealed that the victim was possibly in the area of Caryl Avenue and South Broadway when the shooting occurred, according to police. Rockland Welfare Fraud Detection Saves Taxpayers $628K NEW CITY, N.Y. -- The Rockland County Department of Social Services continued its efforts to combat welfare fraud in 2015, rejecting 89 new applications for public benefits due to front-end fraud detection. The applications, made to DSS between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, resulted in $628,242 in cost avoidance to local taxpayers. Cortlandt Spirit Stars Excel At Yorktown Cheerleading Competition CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- The Cortlandt-based Spirit Stars Cheerleading and Tumble Center senior team won first place in its division at the recent Yorktown cheerleading competition. The team also received the highest score of the competition, earning it the grand champion trophy. Metro-North Riders Prepare For 1% Fare Hikes In New Year FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A fare increase of 1 percent goes into effect Jan. 1 on the Connecticut portion of the Metro-North New Haven Line. This is the fifth of seven consecutive annual increases requested by Connecticut Department of Transportation to help finance the new M-8 cars. This increase will affect ticket prices for travel between Connecticut and New York stations and between stations within Connecticut. Man Charged With Felony DWI In Route 9 Stop PHILIPSTOWN, N.Y. -- A Bronxville man is facing a felony drunken-driving charge after his arrest Saturday, according to police. New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks arrested Christopher J. Kovi, 50, of Bronxville, on Saturday on a charge of driving while intoxicated, a class E felony. Troopers observed a vehicle stopped on Route 9 near Route 301 and stopped to conduct a welfare check on the driver. The driver of the vehicle, Kovi, was found to be intoxicated, police said.
