HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Hastings High School men's and women's soccer alumni will meet for the 12th year on Friday in the annual co-ed game that has become a tradition in the village.
Players from past soccer teams will meet and play at Reynolds Field, the site of their high school playing days, at 11 a.m.
Josh Klein, a 2006 graduate, said he looks forward to the holiday meeting each year.
"I think I've played in every alumni game since I graduated," Klein said. "We always have more than a full 11 on 11 game, with both women and men's team alumni representing many graduate classes. If I'm not mistaken, the annual game started in 2005 or 2006 and has been played every year since then, usually on the Upper Burke field.
Klein said the players have either green or grey alumni soccer shirts and that the game is very casual and appropriate for all skill levels.
"We break for huge sub sandwiches at lunch brought by Josh Blum, who organizes most years." Klein said. "The second half is filled with lots of soreness and tired grumbling from the older alumni. We usually have a dozen spectators; various family members and significant others. It's always a great time."
