Bernie Williams, a longtime Armonk resident, turns 48 on Tuesday.

Williams, a former baseball player for the New York Yankees and classically trained guitarist, was born Sept. 13, 1968 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

As a center fielder for the Yankees, Williams was on four World Series championship teams, won four Gold Glove Awards, the Silver Slugger Award, the American League Championship Series Most Valuable Player Award and was a five-time All-Star. His jersey number, 51, was retired by the Yankees earlier this year.

Williams released his major label debut album "The Journey Within" on 2003, for which he composed seven songs and played lead and rhythm guitar. His second album "Moving Forward" features collaborations with Bruce Springsteen, Dave Koz, John Secada and Patti Scialfa. He was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for the album.

Williams co-authored the book "Rhythms of the Game" with Dave Gluck and Bob Thompson.
