Soave, who rushed for more than 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, is one of 500 athletes nationwide who will participate in the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio, Texas, beginning Jan. 4.

“The ‘Combine’ is designed to highlight the abilities and skills of future college and potential NFL stars,” said Steve Quinn, international recruiting and scouting director for the U.S. Army National Combine and an alumnus of Dobbs Ferry High School.

“A 6-foot, 245-pound fullback, running back and defensive end, Tim is just the kind of versatile player we were looking for and has the potential to play for a Division I school during his college career. Tim certainly has the statistics to compete at this level, but the committee was also impressed with his character and leadership abilities.”

The three-day event, held annually in association with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, is the first opportunity for the nation’s best high school football players to demonstrate their talents and physical prowess while competing in front of college football scouts as well as the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee.

This event is modeled after the NFL Combine. All of the activities will take place at San Antonio’s Alamo Dome, including  tests in the 40-yard dash, 185-pound bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 20-yard shuttle, three-cone drill and 60-yard shuttle.

Soave’s parents, Angelo and Miriam, cited the American Legion Post 1048 in Dobbs Ferry for funding the registration fee for the Combine.

“This is an amazing opportunity for Tim, especially coming from such a small school,” said Miriam Soave. “Now it’s up to him to see what he can do with it. The team and community have been so supportive of Tim and we also couldn’t have gotten this far without the help of Coach Jim Moran and Coach Scott Patrillo, who we’ve looked to for guidance regarding the recruiting process.”

Soave regularly works out with a trainer at Xtreme Training in Thornwood and is also a member of the Dobbs Ferry High School varsity basketball and baseball teams. He began playing football when he was 5 years old and progressed through flag football and Pop Warner to modified and then varsity.

Former Dobbs Ferry football player and Dobbs Ferry Youth Football organizer Alan Straub nominated Soave to the Combine committee.
