Dobbs Ferry Volunteers Help Clean Up Gould Field

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Coaches, local residents and players past and present joined together on Saturday morning to help clean up Gould Park.  Volunteers gathered together to clear out the old storage shed next to the field as they said it was a job that was a bit overdue.

“Were putting a shining touch on an old project,” said Kevin Kearans.  “We realized how much work it needed and the varsity players have come down to volunteer.”

The storage facility was cleaned up as it was full of old equipment and clutter.  Players and other volunteers cleared it out, mopped the floors and cleaned all the dirty equipment.

“It just shows you how many people want to get involved, you just have to put it out there,” said Dobbs Ferry trustee Bill Flynn.

As Dobbs Ferry football alumni did their part in the volunteer effort, Alan Straub, the new head of the youth football program, said many felt it was their duty as former players to help out.

“This is a football town, it always has been,” he said.  “All these guys are born and raised here and that’s what we need.”

With plans to paint the storage facility as well, the idea is to make it more than just an area for equipment.  Coaches said they’d like to make it somewhere players can go during halftime and in the rougher weather.  Kearans said being a part of the Dobbs Ferry football program is something that goes beyond just playing on the field.

“I played here, our roots are definitely here and now I’m a varsity coach here,” he said.
