DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. The Dobbs Ferry girls basketball team celebrated quickly Wednesday after defeating a stubborn Briarcliff team in the Section 1 Class B quarterfinals to earn a spot in the Final Four at the County Center.
We have to play better to win at the County Center, Eagles guard Kristin Foresti said. All the teams are going to be tough, so we have to play well from the first quarter on.
The third-seeded Eagles are matched against No. 2 seed Blind Brook, a team that comes off a victory over Croton in a quarterfinal meeting, in a 6:30 p.m. tipoff Tuesday. No. 4 Kennedy will meet top-seeded Irvington in the other semifinal at 8 p.m. Irvington is the two-time defending Section 1 and state champion.
Dobbs Ferry boasts a stingy defense led by guards Jeana Corradina, Alyssa Chipelo, Foresti, Midori Kihara and inside post player Kristy Degener.
Blind Brook is led by top scorers Ali Silfen and Leah Saliba along with a support group of Shannon Reddy, Sabrina Scappatrra and Jacqueline Lavitt.
Look for the Eagles to go inside to Degener on offense and play for open outside shots from Corradina, Chipelo and the other guards. Dobbs Ferry can advance if its defense can defend the big court at the County Center.
