The Make a Difference Club is a community service organization at the high school that seeks to engage teens in service learning and volunteering.

Club members plan and implement numerous projects throughout the year that aim to benefit the community and charitable organizations. Students are encouraged and challenged to reach beyond themselves and to make a difference in the lives of others.

This year’s Make a Difference event, "Discover Me: Making the Change," consisted of rotating workshops for students on numerous health and wellness issues that included speakers from agencies and businesses, school support staff and community volunteers.

The workshops addressed ways to keep your body, mind, heart and soul fit, and topics included stress management, diversity, mental wellness, physical fitness, team building, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, body image, nutrition and sleep, relationship building, community service outreach and finding inner balance.

Speakers from Drug Crisis in Our Backyard and Peers Influence Peers also spoke to students about the dangers of drugs and the importance of making good decisions.

The goal of the event was to expose students to numerous positive activities that protect factors against negative behaviors that lead to destructive decisions.

Students raised additional money by hosting a staff dress down day/breakfast and a bake sale.

The club will present a $1,000 check to Drug Crisis in Our Backyard on behalf of the Putnam Valley Central School District.
