DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- NPR education reporter Anya Kamenetz, author of "The Test – Why Our Schools are Obsessed with Testing and Why You Don’t Have to Be," will appear at Curious-on-Hudson on April 15 at 7:30 p.m.

"The Test," (PublicAffairs, 2015), is about the past, present and future of testing in American schools. Kamanetz’ was named a 2010 Game Changer in Education by the Huffington Post, received two National Awards for Education Reporting from the Education Writers Association in 2009 and 2010, and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in Feature Writing by the Village Voice in 2005.

According to the Washington Post, New York State has been at the forefront of the opt-out movement, with some 60,000 parents last year, including a significant number of parents in Westchester County, deciding not to allow their children to take these tests. Kamentz’s book addresses the history of standardized testing and options for more agile, less disruptive testing practices.

Curious-on-Hudson is at 145 Palisade St., Dobbs Ferry.
