IRVINGTON, N.Y. — Irvington Union Free School District has invited Ty Sells, a motivational speaker who has presented in schools all over the country, to work with Irvington High School students next month.
The director of Youth-to-Youth International, Sells will present his messages about making healthy and responsible choices at a school-wide assembly on Nov. 3 before running several student workshops on Nov. 4 and 5. He will host an evening forum for parents on Nov. 5 to help them better connect with their children.
The evening forum for parents will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Main Street School auditorium. For more information on Ty Sells and Youth-to-Youth International, see its website.
In the workshops, Sells will work with students in smaller, more intimate groups in order to ensure deeper and more personal conversations. Cohen said Sells’ presentation and workshops tie into the high school curriculum about personal health, including substance abuse and other risky behaviors. He said he encourages parents and families to attend Sells’ presentation, which will contain some essential information for them.
Sells’ visit is sponsored by Irvington About Safe Kids (iASK), a coalition established through a grant awarded to the Village of Irvington and Community Advisory Board. Lisa Tomeny, iASK coordinator, said Sells has the ability to relate to teens while speaking about serious topics. At the same time, he infuses humor with information in a way that is meaningful, real and lasting for young people.
