IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Sixth-graders in Teresa Hunt’s home and careers class at Irvington Middle School recently learned the basic foundation skills of sewing and clothing construction when they created their own cartoon pillows.
Hunt said her students learned how to do a pattern layout, pinning, cutting and marking of pattern symbols. As part of the project, the students also threaded a hand needle and learned basic hand sewing stitches, such as the basting stitch and the outline stitch.
