Hastings High School Music Students Win 18 Awards At Festival

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The Hastings High School music department brought home 18 awards from the WorldStrides OnStage Philadelphia Heritage Festival held March 31 through April 3.

Hastings musicians, along with 22 other ensembles from Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia, performed for a panel of three adjudicators.

All seven of Hastings' performing ensembles – band, chorus, jazz ensemble, madrigals, orchestra, steel drum ensemble and string sinfonia – received gold rating plaques.

Jazz ensemble, steel drum ensemble and string sinfonia also received trophies for the Adjudicator’s Award. string sinfonia also received the Outstanding Orchestral Group trophy, while Chorus received the Outstanding Choral Group trophy. 

The choral program received the Choral Sweepstakes trophy, and the entire department was awarded the Festival Sweepstakes trophy. 

Kat Berman won the Ovation Award, and Simon Brea, Evangeline May and Lucy Wijnands received the Maestro Award. 

Wijnands also performed a solo for the Jazz Ensemble’s adjudication and was nominated for a Maestro Award by the instrumental adjudicators and the choral adjudicators.
