Dobbs Ferry Residents Approve School Budget

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Voters approved the $38.62 million budget in the Dobbs Ferry schools Tuesday by 363 votes to 150. They also re-elected Trustee Lynne Black and elected Jonathan Greengrass to the Board of Education.

The school district's approved budget of $38,619,809 is a 1.44 percent spending increase over the 2011-12 budget of $38,073,156. It will bring a 1.97 percent increase in the property tax levy and a 2.72 percent increase in the tax rate.

Voters also approved, by a vote of 365-136, a proposition to create a multipurpose room by renovating the high school cafeteria with money from the school district’s reserve for capital projects. The school district said the project will have a maximum expenditure of $1.5 million and will come at no extra cost to residents.

Black was re-elected with 393 votes, and Greengrass was elected to his first term with 404 votes. Both ran unopposed for the two open seats on the Board of Education after incumbent Anna Sterne did not seek re-election.

"I am looking forward to working with the other board members whose work I respect so much," Greengrass said Tuesday night. "I support the vision of the new superintendent in the effort  to make sure our children are challenged and prepared for success."
