IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Having stood the test of time for over 100 years, Victorian homes never seem to go out of style. Introduced to America during the late 19th-century, Victorians became synonymous with wealth and luxury. Now, the remaining examples serve as reminders of a golden age of architecture and culture.

Victorian houses are often as eye-catching on the outside as they are inside; unique brickwork, roof edging, ridge tiles and fireplaces in every room are all trademarks of Victorian homes. For example, the more than 120 year old home at 33 Park Road in Irvington embodies the classical style of early Victorians but includes modern upgrades. "Victorian homes have such a strong foundation and include details that many modern homes can't match," said Carolyn Joy, listing agent for Houlihan Lawrence. "Victorian homes were often built in and around cities and are situated very conveniently, much to the delight of homeowners."

Built in 1895, 33 Park Road is listed for $4,250,000 and sits in the Halsey Pond neighborhood of Irvington, a town that features a heavy concentration of Victorian homes. In the late 1800's, Irvington became an early adopter of railroad transportation, and due to the village's close proximity to New York City, it attracted wealthy Manhattanites who settled and built grand homes in the once small farming town. Some of these original houses, most of which were Victorian in style, still stand today.

While 33 Park Road sits in an ideal location and boasts an interesting history, the home also includes modern upgrades for homeowners seeking the most of 21st century living. The renovated interior includes a new kitchen with custom cabinetry, a gallery hall leading to a guest suite, an exercise studio and spa style bath. "This home offers the best of both worlds: the beauty of the original, Victorian build with the luxury and accommodations of today," said Joy.

Sited on over five-acres, 33 Park Road is one of Irvington's premiere listings. "Even though this home was built over 100 years ago, it may never have been as beautiful as it is today," said Joy.
