Yorktown Police responded to a report of a shoplifter in custody at Macy’s at Jefferson Valley Mall (700 Lee Boulevard) on Monday, March 11 around 1:30 p.m.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered that the suspect, identified as 61-year-old Lilia Gierer of New York City, removed the price tag from a coat and replaced it with a cheaper price tag. She then allegedly brought it to the register to purchase it and tried to leave the store with it, costing Macy’s $220. Gierer was arrested and taken to Yorktown Police Department for processing.

Gierer was charged with petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor, and was later released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, April 11.
