HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. Angel Alvarez, an 18-year-old resident of the Bronx, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the third degree on Dec. 14. Police said Alvarez was wanted on a warrant stemming from a Nov. 2 incident in which he allegedly attempted to cash a fraudulent check at the Chase bank in Hastings, police said. The forged check was for $486 according to police. Police picked him up in Eastchester after he was in court for another matter.
Police said a black 2008 Honda Civic was keyed while parked on Maple Ave. on Dec. 9. The scratch mark covered the entire drivers side of the vehicle. The incident happened between 11-11:30 a.m. and police are currently investigating the matter.
Police said a Hastings man walked into his home on Whitman Ave. on Dec. 9 around 12 p.m. and realized it had been burglarized. It is unclear what was stolen yet as police are still investigating.
A 24-year-old Hastings woman was the victim of possible fraud according to police. Police said the woman was unknowingly involved in the incident and reported it on Dec. 8. Police said the woman accepted a job online and was subsequently mailed a check for $1860. The woman was directed to deposit the check in her account and to keep $250 while forwarding the rest. Police said she followed the instructions, but later became suspicious and contacted Chase who indicated the possible fraud. Police said the bank is now following up.
