HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Hastings Board of Trustees recently gave non-union village personnel a 2 percent increase in salary. The pay bump will benefit 24 village employees, with full-time and some part-time employees being awarded the raise.
Hastings Village Clerk Susan Maggiotto said it was difficult because taxpayers may not want to hear about employee raises, however for the past two years employees haven't received any pay increases.
"This is for employees who are not unionized, everyone else is under contract," she said. "We're not getting it retroactively. We're just getting it going forward. We have gone two years with no increase."
With salary raises, some residents may be worried about where their tax dollars are going. However, Maggiotto said the pay increases are a common practice that only recently have become more scrutinized.
"Generally for many, many years it was just standard procedure," she said. "The fact of people getting raises was never really questioned until the economy tanked in 2008."
Below is the list, which can be found on the official village website, of all the positions receiving the raise and what their salaries are now.
