Former Dobbs Ferry Mayor Dies at the Age of 80

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Rolon William Reed, a former mayor of Dobbs Ferry, died this week at the age of 80 near his home in Florida.

Dobbs Ferry Mayor Hartley Connett emailed a message to residents on Thursday about Reed, who was village mayor from 1979-1984. Reed was a Yale Law School graduate and a former Westchester County Judge who moved to Dobbs Ferry in 1963.

"His many efforts and initiatives included helping to transform the waterfront's Willow Point from a semi-industrial eyesore into a public park area," Connett said in the email. "Reed served as mayor until he was appointed by former Governor Mario Cuomo to a judgeship."

According to Connett, Reed is survived by his wife and three children from his first marriage, his four grandchildren and his sister.

"In honor of Mr. Reed, the village has lowered the municipal flags to half-mast, and he shall always be remembered for his service and dedication to the Village of Dobbs Ferry," Connett said in the email.
