Dozens Of Ardsley Residents Still Without Power

ARDSLEY, N.Y. – Nearly 75 Ardsley residents were still without power Wednesday after strong winds brought down power lines Tuesday afternoon. Although most of the 800 outages were repaired before Wednesday morning, some households could be without  power until 11 p.m. Wednesday, according to Con Edison.

Police from Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry and Hastings said there were no injuries or serious damage as a result of the storms and that most damage was restricted to downed branches.

Marina Braun of Ardsley was at Starbucks on Saw Mill River Road Wednesday charging devices that had been out of power since the electricity went off in her house at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

“I didn’t even notice it at first,” she said. “I was on my computer and I just thought I couldn’t get online.”

Braun, who lives on Eastern Drive, said a large tree fell on nearby power lines Tuesday. Although the tree still wasn’t moved early Wednesday, she said police had roped off the area with caution tape. Several contacts with Con Edison provided little information for Braun. The company told her power would be restored Wednesday morning, then later Wednesday, and now much later, she said.

The tree was partially blocking Braun’s path to exit her street, but she said she squeezed her car by because she didn’t want to be trapped all day if the road became impassible. Con Edison crews were working to repair the power lines around 3 p.m., but the downed tree was still leaning on the sagging wires.

The few outages reported in Dobbs Ferry and Hastings were repaired by Wednesday afternoon, but several Con Edison utility trucks were spotted in all three villages as crews worked to restore power to all residents.
