Dobbs Ferry Shops Gearing Up for Holiday Business

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – With the holidays just around the corner, many local businesses are gearing up for the expected increase in customers shopping.  Dan D’Angelo, who owns The Village Soccer Shop, said this is the time of the year when he expects to be a little busier.

“It starts to pick up now,” he said.  “For me a lot of people know I’m here and they kind of come in and do their last minute shopping after all the craziness dies down of the frenetic Black Friday couple of days.”

Local shop owners argue they can provide deals and services that simply aren’t available at the bigger brand name stores.

“I’m always giving good deals,” D’Angelo said.  “I can make any price I want.”

Darci DeMatteo, who owns Say Cheese and Thank You, said the familiar faces in local shops undoubtedly improve the shopping experience as well.

“We’re just sort of your neighborhood store where not only do you know us but you’ll run into your neighbor or your friend,” she said.

Extra services are also common at DeMatteo’s Main St. shop as she offers wrapping, packing and shipping with all orders.

“It’s all about customer service and free gift wrapping,” she said.  “We have a gift for everyone.”

Perhaps one of the biggest incentives to shop local is the accountability downtown shops advertise.

“If anything does go wrong it’s a little bit easier to deal with than maybe calling customer service,” D’Angelo said.
