Cops: Hastings, Ardsley Home Invasions Unrelated

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – A home invasion in Ardsley earlier this week brought back memories of a similar incident in Hastings in January, but officials doubt they  are connected. Hastings police said they are still working on the Hastings case as closely as ever.

“The detectives are still investigating this matter, but there’s nothing to report as of yet,” said Hastings Lt. David Dosin.

Police said in each incident the families were likely targeted as opposed to the crimes being random acts.

“As for the Hastings incident, it appears that the people were targeted, but during an investigation you never want to rule anything out until the investigation is completed,” Dosin said.

Ardsley Chief of Police Emil Califano said it is unlikely that the two home invasions are related.

“Normally stuff like that is not associated,” he said. “It just has to do with someone who knows the target. They’re not just randomly going out and targeting different people. Somebody’s got to know his business and where he keeps money and stuff like that.”

Califano said there is nothing new to report on the Ardsley robbery from Monday night, and that detectives are currently conducting interviews of everyone involved.

Dosin said the best way for local residents to avoid situations like this is to lock all doors and windows and always be aware.

“You know the old saying: If you see something, say something,” he said. “We’ve been getting a lot of calls and it’s really been great and it’s working out. The slightest, slightest thing that may seem like nothing to a local resident could mean a great deal for an investigation, even if it’s later on.”
