HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. The holidays are a popular time for people to get together and share time with their loved ones and celebrate.
Zion Episcopal Church Rev. Mary Grambsch said the church is definitely a little more packed around the holidays, but that it is a great time for people to come out even if they normally dont.
I remember an elderly lady who once sort of scornfully referred to people who came to church on Christmas and Easter as twofers, they come twice a year, but you know my feeling is twice is better than none, Grambsch said. So if this is the time where your heart and mind can be open then come.
South Church Rev. Joseph Gilmore said its the memories of past years that help bring local residents out to services they normally wouldnt attend.
People come to places like this and they remember gathering around tables in those days when they were small and they create tables in their own homes around which families and friends gather, said Gilmore of Christmastime.
People look back fondly on Christmas in the past and just the holiday season in general is something that creates the desire to gather with friends and family.
Its the sentimentality that I think is the great draw for Christmas, Gilmore said.
