3 Hastings HS Students Honored By National Hispanic Recognition Program

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Three students from Hastings High School have been recognized for their exceptional performance on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, according to a statement from the school district.

Michael Ratzkin, Alana Montanez and Sandra Sublette belong to a group of 5,000 out of 250,000 Hispanic/Latino students to earn honors from the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program, according to Louis Adipietro, the high school’s principal.

To earn the recognition, the students must take the test in October of their junior year, achieve a minimum PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test Selection Index Score, earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher by the middle of their junior year, and be at least one-quarter Hispanic/Latino, according to Adipietro.

To be considered for the National Hispanic Recognition Program, a student must have ancestors from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay, or Venezuela.
