Set to Be Deployed, Hastings' Shea Enjoys Holidays

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Former Hastings High School football star Eric Shea, now serving in the United States Air Force, is home on leave for Christmas, and will be headed back to service next week.

The Class of 2006 graduate took some time to answer Five Questions between visiting with family and friends. He is being deployed overseas to Afghanistan just before the New Year.

What's the thing you remember most about Christmas?

The thing I remember most about Christmas is being up early to unwrap presents with my mom and dad, and a large dinner with my cousin, aunts and uncles.

Will you watch sports during the holiday? Which games?

I will definitely be watching sports during the holiday. The games I’m most looking forward to are the Knicks vs. Celtics and Packers vs. Bears.

Which are your favorite teams?

My favorite team is undoubtedly the New York Rangers. I’m a die-hard fan and actually going to see them host the Islanders (Thursday) at Madison Square Garden.

How do you celebrate the holidays?

I celebrate the holidays just by being with family. A lot of the "Christmas spirit" and joy of the holidays was lost in my mother’s passing (last year). The holidays just aren’t the same. But we'll surely have our usual Christmas dinner at my house with the rest of our close family.

Will you be home for the holidays?

I will be home for Christmas, but not New Year’s Day. I'll be leaving for Afghanistan in January.
