Moore, a Hastings High School graduate (2011) where he played football and was a three-sport athlete and peer leader, joined the Navy right out of high school. Four generations of Moore's family have lived in Hastings.
"(George) had one of the hardest jobs in the Navy due to the long hours and amount of work entailed," his mother Lori Moore said. The GW is the permanent forward deployed Naval Force out of Yokosuko Japan. His job is to operate the arresting gear (catches planes) on the flight deck."
The U.S.S. George Washington cited Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) Airman Moore for his strong leadership and motivation. As Arresting Gear Hook Runner, he provides signals to Arresting Deckedge Operators, which ensures the safe retraction of all Arresting Gear purchase cables upon the completion of each aircraft maneuver. According to the Navy citation, Moore, when faced with a rarely used alternate operation, he overcame astonishing odds and completed the task without incident. As Team Leader, he spearheaded an eight member crew to exact specifications with precision and poise. Moore graduated from basic military training in Dec 2011. He went to Pensacola, Florida for A school (job training) to become an ABEAN. The Navy award states "ABEAN Moore is very committed to the mission, has considerable talent and will play an important part in the operation and future structure of our Navy. He is a future leader." "While we have been proud of George his entire life, seeing him proud of himself is the best reward a parent can have," Lori Moore said.
