RAMAPO, N.Y. -- SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher and Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will attend the first meeting of the Regional Community College Council at Rockland Community College, which is open to the public on Thursday, March 31, at 3 p.m. at Rockland Community College in the Technology Center.

In January, the SUNY Board of Trustees established community college councils within designated geographic regions outside of New York City so that the colleges can further collaborate on issues such as enrollment, transfer, program development, and education and training program offerings.

Each council includes a community college president or designee, trustee, faculty member and student from each community college in the region, and may also include business and community leaders within the region.

The Mid-Hudson Community College Council includes representatives from Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester community colleges, and is presided over by Cliff L. Wood, president of RCC.

Besides Wood, the representatives from RCC include Trustee Grant Valentine, professor Bill Baker and student Tal Globus.

The community college councils are not substitutes for the local community college boards of trustees and have no legal authority to usurp, supersede or hinder the governance authority of the community college boards of trustees.
