RAMAPO, N.Y. -- With smiles on their faces 25 fifth-grade students at Sloatsburg Elementary School showed off their certificates after graduating recently from the Town of Ramapo Police DARE Program.
Ramapo police Officer Danny Lynch, who is in charge of the program, said he was impressed with the students and their outstanding participation in the program.
The program works to provide children with the life skills to recognize and resist social pressures to experiment with drugs and alcohol and how to avoid other behaviors, such as joining gangs or taking part in violence.
It also helps kids build self-esteem and communication skills.
