SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- Yehuda Weissmandl, East Ramapo school board president, says a federal investigation that has led to the district's adoption of a 12-point plan to address racial discrimination complaints represents a step forward for the district, according to lohud.com.
Weissmandl made his statement Friday in response to a release from the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, which earlier last week noted that out-of-district placements for white special education children occurred significantly more often than for students of color, lohud reported.
The board president noted that East Ramapo voluntarily reached out to federal authorities and was active in the development of the 12-point plan.
