RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Two candidates are vying for a seat on the Ramapo Town Board left vacant by the resignation of former Councilman Samuel Tress, according to a report by lohud.com.

In the running in the November contest are Michael Rossman, a Democrat, and William Weber Jr., a Republican who will also be running on the Reform party line, lohud.com reported.

Tress, a 71-year-old Democrat, quit his post a few weeks ago after pleading guilty to official misconduct and promising never to seek any future office or position in the town, lohud.com said.

While a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, Truss had been accused of voting in favor of a zoning change for a housing project he had a financial interest in, according to lohud.com.

Rossman is an alternate member on the Zoning Board of Appeals and Weber is a certified public accountant who said the enforcement of town and building codes is part of his platform.

Democratic officials called Rossman community minded and fair while Weber, who has never held public office, touted his lack of ties to the current beleaguered administration as a plus, the lohud.com article said.
